Governor Martin O’Malley Declares January 23-29, 2011 As Nurse Anesthetist Week in Maryland
Providing patients with the professional quality they expect and the personal care they deserve, Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs), in Baltimore and across the country are celebrating the 12th annual National Nurse Anesthetists Week, January 23-29, 2011.
CRNAs representing Maryland were among almost 3000 CRNAs and SRNAs at the AANA Annual meeting in Boston this year. Sprinkled amongst the great educational offerings were wellness activities, dinners, parties, and, of course, the College Bowl and Annual Banquet. Below are Linda Goetz, MANA President and Kelly Petz, MANA President-elect at the AANA-PAC fundraiser held at the JFK Library.

It is vital that we maintain support for the Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs) profession throughout the year as issues can arise at any time that can impact the practice. PAC funds not only support candidates but also education efforts.
To contribute to the PAC, please complete the pledge form.

Is there something going on in your life and you are unsure what to do?
An interesting thing is happening to baby boomers on their way to retirement: While their professional careers are winding down, their trips to the operating room are increasing due to active lifestyles. The American Association of Nurse Anesthetists (AANA) offers baby boomers some perspective on physical activities and lifestyle trends that could ultimately lead to anesthesia and surgery.

Shadow a CRNA
Interested in learning more about nurse anesthesia? If you are considering nurse anesthesia school, have a share day with a CRNA and see what it's all about. Contact Kelly Nevins Petz, CRNA at president@crnasofmd.org for more information.
Don’t forget to notify the Maryland Board of Nursing and the AANA of your change in address! To change your address, your email address or any of your contact information, please send your Member number, the old and the new information to Cathy Loughran, Membership Department at cloughran@aana.com or call her at 847-655-1151.
If you are due to recertify this June, you can do so online thru the AANA but you MUST have all your CE credits done before doing so. The penalties for late recertification are steep this year— $250 for a first time offense, $500 for a repeat offense!
